Always Fun

I wrote a long entry about two days of late night and other complaints, but of course the computer had a glitch and lost it. Always the way. I just wish it hadn't happened to the first real entry I’ve written in weeks.

Yesterday was long. I had to wake up early for a meeting, then drive to Sacramento and get Derek. We stopped by his tore and bought a laptop my Mom decided to buy. It's an open box one and so was way below cost. We got it for just over $900 with tax and everything, but it was worth over $1200. I am not sure she should have bought it right now with money so tight and dad not knowing about it, but I am looking forward to using it too.

After that, Derek and I drove to San Francisco and met up with Mom and Dad at the American Music Hall. We waited outside and saw Mark Kozelek come out of the doors and Dad said stupid goofy things to him. We got good seats in the balcony and settled in. The opener was ok. He was a little inexperienced and didn’t know when to end songs, but good to listen to anyway. Mark came out and played for a very long time. He's very arrogant and snide, but is a brilliant musician. His guitar and vocals are mesmerizing. He played for about 2 hours and even though I was enjoying it, by the end I was wishing he'd wrap it up. We didn’t get out of there until after 11 to start home. We got to our car, which was fine. I had been worried because we had left the laptop in it, well hidden of course. Mom and dad had a scare that their car had been locked in the parking garage, but eventually got it out and we all headed home. Derek and I got there awhile before they did and I set the laptop up charging and configured the wireless internet. Then I crashed into bed at about 2. I slept until 5 when Mom woke me up to ask for muscle relaxants for Dad.

This morning I got up at the normal time and came in to a very long class of 2nd graders doing new things that take them a long time. They are so adorably chaotic! They just say things and get up at random and have fun with the simplest things. We were working on a new reading program which will hopefully improve scores.

It looks like neither of my next two classes are going to show up though, which is what I was hoping. I need a break and the one class is a pain because their teacher doesn’t seem to care. So I have about 20 more minutes until freedom. I want to go home and play with the laptop, but if Dad's around, I can’t do that. Because it was an open box computer, I need to fiddle with things that were put on it. I need to update the security and install Office on it.

I had tow paragraphs of bitching here in the old entry. I was upset that Mom keeps not telling Dad big things. She didn’t even mention her new studio to him until she'd already gone forward with it and he noticed the truck was missing. He flipped out, with good cause, and they had a huge fight over it. Now she buys a fairly pricey laptop and he knows nothing about it. It's all going to happen the same way and I get stuck in the middle covering for her. I hate it.

The other rant was about Derek. He told me he had to work yesterday because he needs hours, but then I called to touch bases, he didn’t go in. He doesn’t have a set schedule because he’s in entertainment now. So he makes his own, but more often that means he doesn’t feel like going in and stays home. It bothers me. I asked him if he needed to get back home early today and he said no, that he likes to try and keep Thursdays as his day off. But he had yesterday off and if he sets the schedule, he can always keep them off next time. It really just rankles. He could be making more money, but he doesn’t care. I would like to wait and take him home on Friday after my work, and I know I could talk him into it, but I know I shouldn’t because he'll just use it as excuse not to work. I would get him there by 1, with plenty of time to work left, but he just won't.

I think that was about all I had written before. If I lose it again I will just be typing bullet points instead. We'll see. Now off to look at the employment ads and what exciting opportunities in trucking await me!
